HTR-PM Nuclear Power Plant Demonstration Project

The HTR-PM demonstration project is organized for implementation by China Huaneng Group. It is one of the benchmarking projects inChinafor the construction of an innovative nation. As the first nuclear power unit with the safety characteristics of Gen-IV nuclear energy systems, it will take a lead in the development and advancement of Gen-IV nuclear power technology in the world. On December 9, 2012, the first concrete for theNuclearIslandfoundation plate was poured, marking the official start of the construction of HTR-PM Demonstration Project.

Six Features Highlighting the Advantages of HTR

1  Advanced nuclear power technology withChina’s own proprietary IPRs;

2  Satisfying the safety targets for generation IV nuclear energy systems and no off site emergency response measures are needed technically thanks to the inherent safety and passive safety of the design;

3  High unit availability by adopting sphere fuel elements and refueling fuel cycle without shutdown;

4  Generation efficiency higher than 40% with simplified systems;

5  Heat from the 700~950℃helium at the outlet of the core can be applied in electricity generation, hydrogen production, high temperature processing heat and so on;
